I obtained my MSc degree in Cognitive and Clinical Neuroscience (specialization in Fundamental Neuroscience) from Maastricht University (The Netherlands) in 2015. Having completed my Master thesis research internship in Prof Eero Castrén’s laboratory at the Neuroscience Center in Helsinki (Finland), I continued my PhD work in his laboratory supported by an awarded grant from the Brain & Mind doctoral program. My PhD work focused on the role of optical activatable TrkB (optoTrkB) specifically expressed in PV interneurons on induced plasticity in the adult mouse visual cortex. In 2020, I started a joint postdoc position in the labs of Prof Oscar Marin and Prof Beatriz Rico, investigating the dysregulation of cortical interneurons in schizophrenia.
Outside the lab, I like to physically challenge myself in weightlifting and conditioning (jogging, cycling). Besides that, I have always been interested to better understand the impact of exercise and nutrition on the overall but particularly mental health and how we can utilize this knowledge to develop better strategies and support to improve the well-being and performance of individuals.
