During my PhD at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam, I trained as an electrophysiologist with Dr. Rhiannon Meredith. My project was aimed at studying differences in the development of pyramidal neurons in different cortical layers in terms of their intrinsic electrophysiological properties and synaptic connectivity. In addition, I studied synaptic inhibition mediated by Martinotti cells in human cortical tissue, resected from patients undergoing neurosurgery. I joined the Rico lab in 2017, wanting to branch out to molecular biology and genomics. In my current project, I use viral tracing, chemogenetics and transcriptomics to study how interneurons specifically contact their cellular targets during development.

Outside the lab, I enjoy making music and doing graphic design.
