Bio
I was born and raised in Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo. After my pre-university and undergraduate education (2014) in Australia and Malaysia, I moved to Europe to pursue a Master by Research specializing in Pharmacology and Neuroscience (2016) at Imperial College London. In the spirit to further deepen and broaden my knowledge in Neuroscience and Molecular Biology, I relocated to Scotland and completed my doctoral training (2021) with David Price at the University of Edinburgh. My work with David focused on the transcriptional regulation of cell fate decisions during neocortical neurogenesis. During my doctoral training, I was blessed with freedom and aspired to venture into single-cell technologies, bioinformatics, and epigenetics, some of which were disproportionately facilitated by COVID-19 lockdowns. Grounding my research interest in cell fate specification, I embarked on my postdoctoral training with Oscar Marin at King’s College London in the summer of 2022. Here, our project focuses on interneuron fate specification, particularly progenitor behaviours associated with interneuron fate commitment during the development. When I am not in the lab, I enjoy good food, nature, music, and gardening.
Kai was a postdoc in the Marin lab from June 2022 to December 2024.
